The termination is not a personal attack, but just a way to keep the well oiled machine that is your business running smooth. Since an difficult individual thinks he or she makes the rules, you'll discover the employee will also decide when he or she needs to work and will set her or his own work pace. You should present the separation notice to the worker during a formal separation meeting. Perhaps they forgot to make that phone call or finish their tasks by the set deadline. Tell the worker when he or she must leave the premises. Other signs that you have an incompetent employee on your hands include a decrease in productivity with an improve in the number of mistakes or an employee that has frequent memory lapses. Understand the grounds for lay off. You and the employee should sign all written documents to show the jobholder knew of the possible separation. These employees know when they come to work that management may terminate them "at any time for any reason." However, a wise employer will not look this solely from her or his own perspective.
